Pencil on paper
These drawings are rigorous designs and among the most intensely disciplined things I do. In them I’ve tried to reach a point where nothing can be added and nothing removed without damage to the whole.

Landscapes and figures
Colour was essential to these pictures. It enabled me to tap into memories of a magical place: a pink sky at dusk, a wave breaking on the shore, small boats slicing through an aquamarine sea.

Line drawings on paper
A sense of immediacy sets these drawings apart from the rest of my output. They are ends in themselves and have no role as studies for paintings.
Free from my usual, slow and deliberate working methods, I was able to indulge in the exhilarating sensation of ‘taking a line for a walk’!
